Is academic advising available during my
studies?
Academic
Program Advising
Upon admission, each
student is assigned a faculty member as their Academic Advisor for the whole
period of study in the program. During the preregistration period,
students meet their academic advisors to discuss their study plan for the
upcoming term, including selecting elective courses to fit their desired career
path. The advisor remains in close contact with the student up to graduation,
tracking the student’s performance, and giving guidance on how to correct any areas
of development.
The
advising and monitoring process in the academic
program
ensures that each and every student follows their curriculum plan and courses
in the proper order to comply with all program prerequisites,as the electronic
system ODUS Plus mandates.ThroughODUS Plus, the advisor has accessto student
transcripts, schedules, and list of availablecourses. Many registration procedures
such as add-drop, course withdrawal, registration for electives, registration
for the summer/co-op training and course substitutions, all require the
approval of the Academic Advisor.
For
students facing academic difficulties, the Academic Advisor is there to
assistthemin overcoming suchchallenges. This is especially true for students
placed on probation by the Deanship of Admissions and Registration. A student
is put on probation whenever his/her cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls
below 2.75, orthey have spent 15 semesters in the Faculty of Engineering
without successfully graduating.
Academic advisors also help students in the process of selecting their
capstone design senior projects, summer or co-op training, and potential career
options forupcoming graduates.
