The ALSU organizes numerous workshops for KAU engineering students to this effect, with topics covering how to give presentations, developing a CV, writing a cover letter, technical English composition, referencing styles and developing research proposals. It also designs and runs need-based English Language courses.  By utilizing ALSU proofreading and editing servicesof assignments, proposals, theses and senior project reports, students are able to increase their opportunities of refiningtheir verbal reasoning, analytical reporting and critical thinking skills.

The ALSU consists of many fulltime English language professors with wide international exposure. These professors monitor the English language progress of students over the entire academic year by examining their performance in project reports, assignments, articles, etc. These writings are generally sent to ALSU members in stages, with suggested language corrections communicated via electronic correspondence, and sometimes during one-to-one meetings. Students are always encouraged to seek advice with regard to their language and communication concerns. The continuous monitoring of students’ development through maintained digital records of students’ progress, aims at improving their academic writing practices.

Development courses for human resources personnel in English communication skills are also availabletobe conducted by ALSU members.  Such courses seek to equip KAU Engineering staff members with the functional English needed in order to meet the challenges of daily workplace interaction, includingbut not limited to, engaging with non-Arabic speaking faculty members, visitors, students and workers.
